Guilt, Regret, and Resolution

One of my favorite people recently wrote of the Roman god, Janus, god of beginnings.  He is said to have two faces, one looking at the past, the other to the future.  As I look to the past and think of things I would like to improve on and look to the future and things I’d like to achieve, one thing pops up in both realms; something Ethan reminded me about again just three days ago.  “Mom, you really need to get writing on the blog again.”

The blog…the blog...how I have really enjoyed our blog over the past few years and how I've missed it!  I’ve relished opportunities to read and reread our adventures and thoughts and experiences.  I’ve been so grateful that I captured what I have.  Someday it will serve as a priceless memoir for our family.

Two things I have told my kids they never want to live with are guilt and regret.  I think they often go hand-in-hand.  We have had such great years with so many special opportunities and experiences and I regret not capturing them in writing.  One of Dano’s favorite people, John Wooden, said, “Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.”  That said, I am putting the guilt aside, as that is not what keeping a blog was supposed to evoke.   I will write today, and tomorrow and in the days to come.  Then, hopefully over the next year I’ll be able to catch up on nearly all the exciting events, many of which have been sitting, half-written, waiting to be completed for months.  Keeping in mind this blog is firstly for posterity purposes (and I’m sure any who were following have abandoned us by now), I’m not going to worry at this point about writing sequentially.  Please bear with the inconsistency in timeline.

The person I quoted previously also shared an old proverb that says, “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago.  The second best time is now.”

Now is the time for me to write again.

There are thousands of blogs out there.  Blogs about crafting.  Blogs about baking.  Blogs about decorating.  Blogs about scrapbooking.  Our blog is about our family.  I love our blog and the story it tells.

Yay!!! Welcome back to blogging! I have missed seeing what one of my favorite families is up to. I also LOVED your quotes! I'm going to copy them and put them where I can see them. Great advice!
